How it all started

Last Updated: July 14, 2025

The Vinyl Hut wasn’t built in a day. It grew gradually, shaped by curiosity, creativity, and a deep love for handmade things. Looking back, it’s hard to pin down the exact moment it all began, but if I had to choose, I’d trace it back to school art days. I was always the one looking forward to those classesβ€”excited to get my hands on anything creative. I never stopped loving the feeling of making something from scratch.

Years later, I stumbled across a Cricut machine at a local thrift store for just $30 and decided to give it a shot. I started small, learning how to make stencils and simple cards, using what little the machine could do. But those early projects sparked something. In November of 2021, I got my hands on a Cricut Joy, and that’s when things really started to open up. Suddenly, I could cut vinyl, create labels, and experiment with greeting cards in a whole new way. I even made custom jar labels and started playing with many different greeting card designs.

A year later, in September 2022, I upgraded to a Cricut Explore Air 2, which is still the main machine I use today. Over time, I crafted all kinds of things. Cards for family, iron-on aprons for a school fundraiser, and a handful of other creative side projects. But at that point, it was still mostly a personal hobby, something I did out of love more than anything else.

That changed in late 2023. While making a few cards to give as part of Christmas and birthday gifts, my mom suggested something that would shift everything: "Why don’t you try selling these?" She had already been selling her crochet creations locally for a few years and had recently transferred to a new artisan boutique called Small Town Collective. A few months later, in March 2024, I brought in my very first batch of handmade greeting cards. And that’s where The Vinyl Hut officially found its start.

From that point on, things began to grow quickly. I hit several exciting milestones, selling my 100th, 200th, ... and soon my 700th greeting cardβ€”and gained even more confidence in my work with each one. I began offering cards wholesale, and before long, I had partnered with Route 304 Cattle Co. in Linden, Alberta, and more recently, Merch on Main in Blairmore. Seeing my creations in multiple locations across the province has been both humbling and surreal.

And then, on March 12, 2025, I launched something I’d dreamed about for a long timeβ€”my very own online store. With this new step, The Vinyl Hut became more than just a local passion project. It became a small business with heart, reaching beyond my community to connect with people who value creativity, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design.

Today, I still do everything myselfβ€”from concept to cutting, assembly to packaging (mom still helps with some of the ideas, lets be honest). Every card is made right here in-house, using quality materials and careful attention to detail. While greeting cards are at the heart of what I do, The Vinyl Hut continues to grow, with sticker designs, calendars, and more creative offerings in the works.

What started with a secondhand Cricut and a love for making things has turned into something so much more. And none of it would have happened without the steady encouragement of my biggest supporterβ€”my mom.

The Vinyl Hut is a space where creativity lives, where handmade still matters, and where every piece tells a story. From my hands to yours.

Creative Process

The creative process at The Vinyl Hut is a blend of inspiration, collaboration, and hands-on crafting. It all starts with a blank canvas and an ideaβ€”sometimes my own, often inspired by my mom’s amazing design suggestions. From there, I experiment with colors, images, and layouts, ensuring each product feels fresh and thoughtfully designed. Once the concept is finalized, I bring it to life using my Cricut machine and other crafting tools, paying close attention to detail every step of the way. Whether it’s a single greeting card or a batch of custom stickers, each item is crafted with care and a whole lot of love.
