🌍 Customs Updates!

I’ve recently made a big change to how international orders are handled here at The Vinyl Hut, and I want to walk you through everything clearly.

Starting August 29, 2025, all orders shipped outside of Canada may now be subject to additional fees like customs duties, import taxes, or handling charges—depending on your country’s regulations.

But here’s the good news: I’ve now enabled a built-in Duties & Import Taxes system to show and charge these fees right at checkout. No more guessing. No surprise bills from your local courier. Just full transparency.

📦 What’s Changing (And Why)

Before this change, many international customers may have received unexpected charges from customs or postal carriers at the time of delivery. These fees weren’t visible at checkout—and were sometimes out of my control.

Now, I've made it simple and stress-free by:

  • ✅ Automatically calculating import duties and taxes at checkout
  • ✅ Including those costs in your order total (as a new line item labeled "Duties")
  • ✅ Helping ensure faster, smoother delivery with fewer delays at customs

🌎 Who Does This Affect?

If you live outside of Canada (including the U.S., UK, EU, Australia, etc.), this applies to you. Whether or not you’re charged any import fees depends on your country’s rules and the value or contents of your order.

At checkout, if applicable, these fees will appear automatically so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying upfront.

This feature uses Shopify’s official Duties & Import Taxes tool, which is trusted and kept up to date with the latest international customs data. That means:

  • 🔒 Secure, accurate, and compliant fee calculation
  • 💬 No confusing math or extra research needed
  • 📬 Packages marked as DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) so your order clears customs more easily

💡 A Quick Example

Let’s say you're in Germany and you place a €45 order. If your country charges 19% VAT on imported goods, you’ll see that amount added to your total during checkout (as a new line item labeled "Duties"). No hidden costs—everything is bundled in one clean payment.

This keeps things fair, predictable, and crystal clear.

📫 What About Shipping Costs?

Your shipping rates remain the same as calculated at checkout depending on your location.

Any duties or taxes are separate from the shipping charges and will only be added if your country requires them.

💛 I still offer free standard shipping thresholds! Over $60 for Canada and USA, and over $100 for International orders.
