Behind the Craft: How a Greeting Card Comes to Life at The Vinyl Hut
When I started The Vinyl Hut, I set out to create more than just stationery—I wanted to create connection. Whether it’s a greeting card that speaks from the heart or a seasonal calendar that adds warmth to your space, everything I offer is made with purpose and care.
As a one-person business, I manage almost every part of the process myself—from design and production to packaging and shipping—but my mom is always there to lend a second opinion when I need it, and I’m grateful for that support. I may work digitally, but every piece still carries that handcrafted spirit. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how I create each card—step by step—from the very first image to the moment it’s packed and ready to send.
Step 1: It All Starts with a Shared Collection of Inspiration
Inspiration doesn’t always arrive in dramatic bursts. For me, it starts with something much more grounded—a shared digital board that my mom and I have been curating over time. We save images that feel visually pleasing and would work well for greeting cards, calendar pages, and more: nature scenes, vintage textures, cozy seasonal moments, and colors that spark the right mood.
When it’s time to design a new collection—whether that’s a round of greeting cards or new calendar pages—I scroll through that board and pull a batch of images to work with. I usually let the season or a general feeling guide my choices. Other times, it’s simply time for a shop refresh, so I’ll pull in a handful of unused images to bring something new to the store.
Every so often, I’ll use a photo from my own camera roll or from someone I know—especially if we’ve been camping or out exploring—but most of my design work begins with that curated board: a visual collection built with intention and collaboration.
Step 2: Designing with Canva
Once I’ve selected the images I want to work with, I upload them into Canva—my main digital design tool. I use pre-sized templates I’ve created specifically for my cards, which helps me keep everything consistent.
From there, it’s mostly drag and drop—placing each image, adjusting the layout, and making sure it aligns with the tone and purpose of the card. Whether the design is meant to be calm and minimal or bold and rustic, I take time to ensure it feels just right. Once I’m happy with the final version, I download the design and prep it for production.
Step 3: Printing, Cutting & Scoring
After the design is finalized, I bring it into Cricut Design Space. This is where the digital becomes physical. My Cricut machine prints, cuts, and scores each card precisely to size. The scoring feature is especially important—it ensures every card folds neatly and cleanly, giving it that polished, professional finish while still keeping its handmade charm.
This process is all done by me in my workspace, one card at a time, with care and attention to detail.
Step 4: Folding, Finishing & Packaging by Hand
Once everything is cut and scored, I fold each card by hand, pair it with an envelope, and slip it into a protective sleeve, ready for sending. Whether it’s a single card or a set, I take care to make sure each order is secure, neat, and presentation-ready—so it feels like a small gift from the moment you open it.

Not Just Cards—But More to Come
Right now, I mostly offer greeting cards and seasonal calendars. I also carry branded stickers featuring The Vinyl Hut logo. While those aren’t made in-house, they were carefully sourced to reflect the same quality and aesthetic as the rest of my shop.
My product line will continue to grow and evolve, but no matter what I create, the same level of care goes into each and every piece.
More Than Just Paper
At the end of the day, my work isn’t just about paper or printing—it’s about creating something meaningful. Whether you’re sending a card to a friend, decorating your space with a calendar, or collecting small pieces that bring you joy, I want everything from The Vinyl Hut to feel intentional, heartfelt, and made with love.
